THIRTEEN WOMEN

13 WOMEN was a live performance by Amanda Coogan exploring the Church Street disaster of 1913 and its parallel with contemporary Irish society.

The performance took place in the Hugh Lane Gallery over 12 hours. It was captured in this video by Paddy Cahill using timelapse photography, the entire 12 hours resulting in a new 8 minute film. I created an original soundscape for the film based upon manipulated fragments of Stravinsky's The Rites of Spring. The Rites of Spring, famously, was premiered in 1913 to riotous reception and, thus, provides a means of forging musical connection with the period of the Church Street disaster.
